Student Safety Programs
Teaching students to ride safely
We think it’s important to work with students and parents to ensure that the trip to and from school is safe and enjoyable. That’s why we have created programs that teach safety awareness and procedures for both new and experienced riders.
Our programs are delivered by safety officers who have been specially trained and certified in safety procedures. Their fun and engaging approach ensures an enjoyable learning experience for students.
First Rider Program:
First Rider is an education and awareness program that promotes school bus safety to young children and their parents. It is targeted at young children who will be entering the school system for the first time, and who will be using school buses on a regular basis.
First Rider is a fun learning experience that familiarizes young children with school buses and helps them overcome any fears they may have about riding on the "big yellow bus". It also provides information to children and their parents on school bus safety procedures, including how to get on and off the bus safely.
School Bus Safety and Evacuation Program:
This program is designed to provide all students who ride a school bus with training on how to properly embark, disembark, ride and evacuate a school bus.
It’s been proven that riding in a school bus is one of the safest modes of transportation – up to sixteen times safer than the family car. We want to ensure that getting on and off the bus are just as safe as riding in one. This program focuses heavily on these procedures.
Rules for getting on the bus safely:
- Be at the bus stop on time. Never run to or from the bus.
- Wait at the designated stop in a safe place well back from the side of the road.
- Be careful when you are in the danger zone. The danger zone is anywhere close enough to the bus to touch it. The bus driver cannot see you when you are in the danger zone.
